The Imperfect Board Member: Discovering the Seven Disciplines of Governance Excellence

By Jim Brown
Published by Jossey-Bass

This is a ‘must read’ for any new or frustrated member of a Board of Directors.

Written as a business fable( not unlike the various One Minute Manager books of the past), the book is one you can easily read during a short airline flight or in an evening at home.  The key character, David, is frustrated with the board of directors for his company.  However, through his volunteer board role, he learns about the role of a board member from a fellow board member in the community association.   The book provides a Governance Excellence Model (G.E.M.) for boards that is designed to turn imperfect board members into perfect board members.  G.E.M. was developed by Strive! , a leadership development firm that specializes in board governance (www.strive.com).
